Covad Communications provides ultra-fast, affordable, "always on" broadband access services utilizing
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology that connects home and business users to the internet. Because of our
unique relationship, Comtech is able to take advantage of Covad's nationwide network of over 1800 COs
(Central Offices) with service passing 42M homes and businesses nationwide. This nationwide network consists of
multiple regional networks that are interconnected using ATM Virtual Path Connection Service from an ATM service
provider. The regional networks consist of Digital Subscriber Loop Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs) and ATM switches.
Local loops are connected to the DSLAMs that multiplex traffic from the client premises onto the DS-3 link to the
ATM switches. The ATM switches are connected to each other by DS-3 links and to customer premises equiptment with
